A new, electric motorbike from Hengelo is expected to breathe new life into motocross.

Environmental concerns and, especially in natural environments, easily annoying noise pollution have put pressure on off-road motorsport for years. The advent of electric motorbikes would offer a solution, but for long-distance racing in particular, the limited range and long recharging time remains a drawback.

Hengelo-based Radian, a spin-off from student team Electric Superbike Twente, has now solved those problems. The Radian EXR model presented last week is the world's first fully competition-ready electric enduro bike , according to the University of Twente.

Innovative battery system

With an output of seventy hp and astronomical pulling power (torque) of over a thousand newton metres, the approximately 125-kilogram EXR far surpasses existing petrol-powered motocross bikes. The real innovation, however, is in the battery system. Within half a minute, the battery can be changed without the need for tools.

This is partly due to the curved shape, which also ensures even weight distribution. On one battery charge, the bike can cruise sixty kilometres offroad; on the road, the range is almost double.

On the road

Radian has employed professional test riders to put the EXR firmly to the test. Incidentally, the bike is not only suitable for heavy off-road racing. It may also hit the public roads for recreational riding.

Interested parties can now reserve one for a small fee. Eventually, the starting price will be 14,450 euros. First delivery is not expected until late 2027.
