The energy transition is in full swing. Wind and solar energy are accounting for an ever-increasing share of our energy supply. But what happens when the wind drops for long periods and the sun barely shines? This phenomenon, known as ‘Dunkelflaute’ or ‘dark lull’, could have major consequences for the reliability of our future energy supply. What risks does this pose for grid operators, energy producers, industry, the government and consumers? And what solutions are available? At the symposium organised by the KIVI Electrical Engineering Section, experts will address this pressing challenge.
